I have just left school with strong GCSEs but no work experience, could I start at a Level 3 AAT apprenticeship?

We would recommend starting with the Accounts/Finance Assistant (Level 2) as you will gain a real insight into the basics of accountancy, whilst getting to grips with being in your first work environment. Starting at Level 3 would assume you are proficient with software that you are likely to be using in your role.

A typical day as an AAT apprentice, within a Finance Team or an Accountancy Practice, would be supporting the wider team delivering a great service. As this is an entry level qualification you would start with the Accountancy Basics, learning how to use the internal finance systems to complete a range of tasks such as:

  • Processing invoices/credits
  • Maintaining online and manual filing systems
  • Daily banking and reconciliation
  • Basic bookkeeping
  • Payroll
  • Building some relationships with clients and completing associated paperwork.

You should find that what you learn in both your day to day role and your studies with Kaplan will complement each other. You should gain real confidence when completing your Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours making a great foundation for a future accountant.
